Today’s cities have an ever-increasing number of residents belonging to ethnic minorities. How do they integrate with the local culture? Cuisine is the most direct way to experience cultures different from one’s own. Each resident belonging to an ethnic group was then asked which of their traditional dishes could be prepared using ingredients available in Milan. The ingredients were then divided into eight macro-areas, each represented by a different color, resulting in twelve distinct color combinations — one for each dish. The colors then became patterns, inspired by the preparation and appearance of each dish.
